I am considering Lumineers...
Added: September 23, 2006 - 12:00 PM
By: Patient Email Withheld, Olmsted Falls, OH
Need Dentist / Specialist: Yes
Provide Cost Estimate: Yes
X-rays Available: No
Case Summary

Teeth:
Last Full Mouth X-Ray: Very long time
Last Cleaning: 4 Years, don't yell
Case Description
I have been thinking about veneers for about 10 years now. I actually had a consultation for Porcelin veneers, but I did not like the idea of having my teeth shaved down. My teeth are straight on top, but there are spaces between them, sometimes it bothers me, sometimes not... I would like a great smile! I don't know what veneers are better... Lumineers sound great, but that is just what all of the advertising has told me, I don't want to destroy my teeth, they are healthy. I need a great dentist who is objective and will discuss all possible options. I would like to have a payment plan if possible.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

Lumineers cases are great if done within the context of what these type of veneers can offer. Today''''s porcelain veneers are more lifelike, strong and beautiful than ever, and the procedure to place them has become very routine, although remains technique sensitive. This procedure is very specific. Having your veneers done by a dentist who has performed veneers on many other patients and can show you the results of those treatments is a good way to identify who you want to give you that great smile. However, many Lumineer cases require shaping of the teeth as well. I would be happy to review any treatment options with you directly and look forward to your call.

Veneers may be the choice for you. However, other alternatives may be available, such as - bonding, limited orthodontics, combination of several techniques. In order to be accurate and specific , an office examination is necessary. Please call the office if you are interested.

All veneers require some "shaving" of the anterior surface of the front teeth prior to impression taking. You cannot have veneers just "put over the top of my teeth" like some people think...they would protrude too far and fall off. Sometimes spacing can be "closed" with interproximal bonding. That with bleaching techniques may be able to allow you to achieve the esthetic results you desire. We would be pleased to see you as a patient and discuss all possible options and payment planning. If interested feel free to Email to my address. Thanks!

Think twice about it and then don''''t do it. Lumineers leads you to think no tooth preparation is necessary to place them. Won''''t work that easy. Rest assured without "some" preparation they will most likely fall off. If they stay they will look and feel "too thick." Be realistic and think long-term.
